April 18, 2023  | Liability Brewing Company

GREENVILLE, SC, 4/18/2023 – Liability Brewing Company, a locally owned and independent craft brewery, is pleased to release its annual benefit report for 2022.

Annually, Certified B Corps and Benefit Corporations registered with the state of South Carolina must report on their progress in meeting or exceeding their stated general and specific public benefits. Liability Brewing is excited to share progress made during 2022 as we obtained our official certification from B Lab and became SC’s first Certified B Corp brewery.

Previous annual reports can be accessed through the News page.

MORE ABOUT B CORPS

B Corps are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. In other words, profit above all else is NOT the driving force behind B Corps as it is with other corporate designations.

B Corps are purpose driven organizations that place emphasis on making a positive impact on their employees, communities, and the world by making sure that every stakeholder benefits from the organization and not just shareholders or owners.

The non-profit organization, B Lab, administers the rigorous certification process. Organizations are required to meet a minimum verified score of 80 on the B Impact Assessment. This assessment appraises a company’s impact in the areas of Governance, Workers, Community, Environment, and Customers.

Public transparency of operations and impact is also a required component of certification. B Corps must post their B Impact Report and any accompanying disclosure statements to the B Lab website. Liability Brewing Co. earned an overall score of 81.3, and their profile can be viewed at the B Lab website.

To further solidify their legal accountability, Liability Brewing Co. became a Benefit Corporation with the state of South Carolina in 2021.

At the time of certification, Liability Brewing Company was one of only 18 breweries in the United States holding this highly regarded certification and joined a community of over 5,000 B Corps in over 70 countries, spanning 150 industries.

Kathy Horner, General Manager, said: “When my husband and I founded Liability Brewing Company, we knew a commitment to our employees, the greater community, and the environment was a bedrock founding principle of the brewery. Securing Certified B Corporation status after a rigorous, lengthy assessment and verification process is a true testament that we’ve succeeded in meeting that principle.”

“We are proud to join the B Corp global community and are excited to learn from that community as we work to grow our business and improve our score each and every year.”

ABOUT LIABILITY BREWING COMPANY

Locally and independently owned, Liability Brewing Company is a 10 BBL brewery and taproom located on West Stone Avenue in Greenville, SC. Fun loving and irreverent, they are serious about their craft and quality, and are maniacally focused on creating an experience that guests will enjoy for decades to come.

Founded in 2018 on the belief that the current demand for fresh, local beer was not a trend, but an American desire with far reaching impacts, they stand as an antagonist to macro produced, high-on-marketing, low-on-flavor beverages, and know that customers want a product that is equal parts art and science from producers who are not solely focused on maximizing shareholder profit. They’re on a never ending search for the best ingredients to make the greatest beer they possibly can while taking care of their employees, the surrounding community, and the environment. In 2021, Liability Brewing Company became a Benefit Corporation with the state of SC, and in 2022, earned the Certified B Corp designation from B Lab.

In addition to pouring from 17 taps in their Greenville taproom, they distribute craft beer throughout the state of South Carolina in partnership with Low Country Craft Distribution.
