Studies have been conducted to rank the best cities in the country for beer enthusiasts in anticipation of International Beer Day on Friday, Aug. 2.

According to data collected by Tasting Table, Google search trends for the “best beer cities in the US” have increased by 70%, while searches for “beer tasting tours” have soared to a 90% increase in the past 30 days.

South Carolina holds three cities in the “Top 100 Best Beer Destinations,” including Greenville, Charleston and Columbia, Tasting Table’s study shows.

Greenville is the highest ranked among South Carolina cities at No. 5. Greenville has 2.47 breweries per 10,000 residents, making the city a good location for those who love craft beer. The city also offers 18.40 bars per 10,000 residents, giving plenty of choices to beer lovers with the average cost of a pint being $5.

Notable Greenville breweries include The Southern Growl, Fireforge Crafted Beer, and Liability Brewing Co.

Greenville also holds annual events like the Greenville Craft Beer Festival and Euphoria Greenville to enhance the city’s beer scene.

Charleston was ranked the No. 17 top beer city in the U.S. offering 1.16 breweries per 10,000 residents. The city also has 12.04 bars per 10,000 residents to give residents many options throughout Charleston. Charleston is home to a couple of prominent breweries such as Revelry Brewing Co. and Edmund’s Oast Brewing Co. The average cost per pint in Charleston is $6.75.

Columbia is developing a reputation in the beer world, as the city was ranked No. 26.

Asheville, North Carolina, was ranked No. 1 for U.S. beer lovers due to the amount of breweries on the scene. There are four breweries per 10,000 residents in Asheville and 16.52 bars per 10,000 residents in the city. With an average price per pint sitting at $4 and nine beer-tasting tours across the city, it makes sense why the city was voted the highest among beer enthusiasts.

According to TripAdvisor, New Belgium Brewing Co., Highland Brewing Co., and Wedge Brewing Co., are the top three breweries to visit in Asheville.
